Politically Correct Madness & The Continuing Death Of Free Speech

An employee at a so called Christian ‘homeless’ charity, has been suspended for answering questions about his faith to a colleague at work. To add insult to injury the patron of this charity is none other than the Archbishop of Canterbury, and erstwhile Druid, Dr Rowan Williams.

The employee, David Booker, aged 44, a Christian from Southampton, has worked for the English Churches Housing Group for almost four years .On 26 March, whilst working an evening shift; he had a 35 minute conversation with female colleague Fiona Vardy.  Ms Vardy asked him about his faith and beliefs.  During the conversation he was asked about the Christian stance on homosexuality and same-sex marriages, which he duly explained.

The following day he was summoned by his employers and told that he was suspended for “events that happened last night”.  On March 30, he was given a formal suspension  notice alleging that: ” On 26 March 09, whilst on shift with Fiona Vardy, you seriously breached ECHG’s (English churches House group) Code of conduct by promoting your religious views which contained discriminatory comments regarding a person’s sexual orientation.”

This disgraceful incident clearly illustrates that in today’s politically correct, increasingly secularized society, even consenting reasonable discussion on religion between two employees is being twisted by employers to discriminate and silence the Christian voice and freedom of expression. One does also wonder at the motivation of Ms Vardy for this incident reads like something straight out of the old Communist East Germany.

It is undeniable that in recent years incidents such as this have become common place. The criminalising of religious belief is a modern day disgrace. The demand for uniformity of thought, belief and speech is the no more than the oppression of Orwell’s 1984. It bears stating that his novel was intended as a warning and not a blueprint. Yet the mindset of our lords and masters that now the mere holding of orthodox Christian beliefs has become a crime, is Cultural Marxism at its worse. Mr Booker had committed no crime: he had not discriminated against anyone; he had not preached hatred or incited violence; he had not transgressed a jot or tittle of equality legislation – yet he is to be discriminated against. In the name of tolerance he is to experience brutal intolerance. This is an absolute outrage. Job worked for English Churches Housing Group in the early 1990s in a direct access hostel for the homeless in King’s Cross, London. The sinister creep of political correctness was very much in evidence even in those days. Job’s forthright Christian views were not welcomed during the period of his employment with ECHG, and whilst he experienced nothing like what Mr Booker has experienced, it does not surprise Job that the current situation has arisen. After a decade working in Financial Services, Job finds himself working for a homeless charity once again in recent months. Consequently he has been required to attend a plethora of ‘training courses’. These are nothing more than re-education sessions crammed to overflowing with sinisterly oppressive politically correct propaganda. Sadly such thought is so prevalent within society at large that people have ceased to be able to discern truth. The time for a reasonable and rational discussion on such issues as homosexuality from a perspective of absolute truth has sadly passed. The Christian voice and freedom of expression must now be silenced.

Job is of the opinion that Western society is now firmly under the judgement of a Holy God. It is almost a certainty that overt persecution of Christianity will become the norm in coming months and years. Rampant secularism and swivel eyed Islamism will see to that. Through it all though perhaps the words of the Apostle Peter will provide great comfort:

‘Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, so that the proof of your faith, {being} more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honour at the revelation of Jesus Christ; and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory obtaining as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls’. [1 Peter 1:3-9]

It’s time to hold on folks. It is time to pray for Mr Booker and all who call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
